Diatomaceous Earth is sometimes referred to as Diatomite which is a powdered fossil plankton or algae found in millions of years old dried up fresh water lakes.Also some times referred to as Fossil Shell Flour.
Diatomaceous Earth kills by physical action, not chemical by puncturing the insect’s exoskeleton and absorbing its body fluids, thus posing no harm to warm-blooded life. Moreover, on any surface, these natural pesticide products have a remarkable repellency factor. As long as it is present, insects tend to stay away, making a serious infestation unlikely. Also, the more it is used, the more an environment is created that tends to make insects unwelcome.

POWDER;
Adults; start with a teaspoon of Diatomaceous Earth and work up to two heaped teaspoons, twice daily.
Children 5 to 12 yrs; Half; a teaspoon twice a day.
Children 6mths to 5 yrs; quarter teaspoon twice a day.
Mix thoroughly in half a cup of water. Drink immediately and follow with another cup of water. Take on an empty stomach preferably.
Diatomaceous Earth can be mixed with juices, yoghurt etc, if preferred.
CAPSULES; start taking
Adults; 1 capsule twice a day and work up to 3 or more capsules twice a day. Continue drinking water throughout the day, because DE can cause Constipation from dehydration.
Children 5 to 12 yrs; Half a capsule twice a day.
Children 6mths to 5 yrs; quarter capsule twice a day.
If constipation occurs – consider taking extra magnesium or half a teaspoon of Epsom salts in a glass of water.
WARNING; Allow at least one hour before or after medications or supplements. Do not cook our Diatomaceous Earth as this can cause it to crystalize and thus become toxic to consume.
Initially, you MAY experience a Herxhemier reaction, which can cause abdominal discomfort and flu-like symptoms. This is a normal response to detoxing, as parasites and pathogens die they are releasing their toxins into your system for elimination. The symptoms should disappear after a few days.
Should this be a concern, you should then reduce your dose to half a teaspoon twice a day and then slowly increase over a few weeks.
Fossil Shell Flour is another name for Diatomaceous Earth.
Getting rid of Bed Bugs
Did you know that Bed Bugs hide during the day and come out at night when the lights are out?
They can hide in the corners of your carpet where it meets the wall, under your bed and even (commonly) in the electrical power sockets.
Sprinkle the Diatomaceous Earth powder around your bed where it meets the floor. Dust liberally using a Duster or Puffer is best. Dust the mattress and carpets and sprinkle the Diatomaceous Earth powder along the walls where the carpet joins the walls and add some extra under the power sockets. (bed bugs love to hide in power sockets for some reason) If you have a powder duster, you should also do under your bed and also along the top of any woodwork of your bed.
Leave DE in place as long as you can. Repeat until you no longer have a bed bug problem.
This may take weeks depending on the amount of bed bugs you have and how far they have spread through your house. Quick action can stop them spreading and being carried to other places.
DIATOMACEOUS EARTH FOR FLEA CONTROL
You will need to dust the area and pets every two days until you have broken the flea breeding cycle.
Fleas cannot build up an immunity to Diatomaceous Earth as they can to chemicals.
Dust your pets with DE twice a week for flea control. There is no concern if the pets lick themselves while DE is on them as they will only get the extra benefits of worming from DE along with silica and trace minerals.
Dust your yard for flea control and you can dust pet kennels, chicken coops and houses, animal beds and any where you think fleas could be living and breeding.
Fleas eggs can lay dormant for a year or more until the conditions are right for them to hatch and have a meal on you or your animals or wildlife.
For an infestation of fleas you need to dust everywhere that fleas could be living. When dusting the yard etc, do so at the rate of 1 kg per 10 x 10 m2 and if it rains you will need to reapply as DE washes into the soil when watering or from rain.

Worm your Cats naturally with Diatomaceous Earth. – mix in their feed each day.
Dust cats for Flea control and other skin issue.
Reduce fur balls with Diatomaceous Earth.
Improve general health and healthy fur with Diatomaceous Earth.
Feed at the rate of one teaspoon per day for large cats.
Half a teaspoon for kittens daily.
For fussy cats – dust them with DE and they will lick it off and get enough be beneficial.
Dust them for fleas and skin conditions.

Feed at the rate:
- Up to 10 kg half a teaspoon per day.
- 10 to 20 kg one teaspoon per day.
- 20 to 40 kg 2 teaspoons per day.
- 40 kg and over 3 teaspoons per day.
Give daily for minimum of 6 weeks for parasites and worms.
Can continue for other benefits such as trace minerals and silica or give 3 times per year for 6weeks at a time.
Dust them for fleas and skin conditions.
Helps with ticks, fleas, mites, fungal infections, many skin conditions.
Dusting of birds, their houses and pens etc with Diatomaceous Earth has been found to be very effective. Mites and other pests do not become immuned to Diatomaceous Earth as it kills by dehydration of the pest. This can take a few days for them to die. Breaking the breeding cycle of the pest is essential to the success of irradication of the pest.
Diatomaceous Earth will not harm birds or the owners. It will only affect small pests and parasites.

Dust every 4-5 days until irradication has been successful.
Dust until you have stopped the breeding cycle of the pest.
Make sure to dust the nests as these are the favourite breeding places for most of these pests.
Make a dust bath so they can enjoy it themselves.
Reduce the wild birds fluffing mites into pens as this is the main
Reason for the spread of mites.
For control of aphids, white fly, beetles, caterpillars, mites, leaf hoppers, fungus, mildew etc. Use Diatomaceous Earth inside your greenhouse or outdoors on fruits, vegetables, flowers, grains and grass, up to and including day of harvest.
For dry application of Diatomaceous Earth, use a duster and cover entire plant, apply to both top and bottom of leaf. For young plants, as little as 20 KG per acre may be
adequate. For larger plants, 60 KG per acre is probably sufficient.
For wet application – 1 part DE to 4 parts water using ultra fine grade DE and spray onto plants. This will dry to a white powder on the plants.
Diatomaceous Earth will need reapplication after a rain. Applies best when there is dew or after a light rain. It is a long lasting, effective powder. The insects cannot build up resistance.
Dig Diatomaceous Earth in the soil to improve soil structure and provide calcium and
Trace minerals along with a slight Alkalizing effect.
Diatomaceous Earth helps improve the stem structure of plants and over all health of plants.
Add 20 kg to 10 x 10 square Metres
